Surgical: Executive Committee Member

Hello! I’m Ayan, and I’m excited to put myself forward for the role of General Executive.

SurgSoc has been a huge part of my medical school journey. As a subcommittee member, I’ve supported the Trauma, Orthopaedics and Plastics Conferences, as well as Mock PACES. From facilitating workshop set-ups to leading delegate groups, I’ve seen first-hand what makes our events successful, and where we have opportunities to grow.

Alongside this, I bring strong leadership experience. As President of my school Debate Club, I organised tournaments and trained over 120 students, developing confidence in team coordination and event management. I also organised a sports medicine talk with the Head of Sports Medicine at Arsenal FC, strengthening my ability to liaise with senior clinicians and deliver engaging, high-quality events.

Here are four key goals I’d love to focus on:

Build stronger research links - Actively facilitate connections between students and surgeons for projects, audits, and academic mentorship.

Strengthen speaker outreach - Use my experience liaising with senior clinicians to bring in inspiring surgeons across subspecialties.

Support inclusivity & accessibility - Ensure events are welcoming, well-advertised, and valuable for students at every stage.

Enhance student interaction on the day - Improve delegate experience, structure, and networking opportunities.

I believe SurgSoc thrives when it listens to its members and works as a team. I’m eager to collaborate closely with the committee to build on the incredible work already done.

Thank you for your consideration - I’d be incredibly grateful for your support!
