Ronak Sabu
Hello SurgSoc people! I'm Ronak, and this year I'm excited to apply for the position of Executive Committee member.
Over the past two years, I've been extensively involved in SurgSoc activities, attending Trauma conference, various Skills workshops and have benefited greatly from teaching series and networking events organised by the society. Gaining all of this insight from the cutting edge of research and then putting it all together, going on placement and assisting with my first ever lap chole, has reaffirmed my drive for surgery. Now, I'd like to give back.
To this role I bring
- A passion for student engagement and inclusion, widening our membership through innovative events designed to engage those who might be on the fence about a surgical career
- Experience in leadership roles, including serving as Wellbeing Representative for my year group and CSP committee roles
- A deep interest in teaching and CPD, serving as a lecturer for MedEd and Surgsoc JAS, as well as mentoring students looking to get into Medicine
- Experience, understanding and knowledge of Union bureaucracy and procedures, which can be annoyingly difficult to navigate
As part of your Committee, I'd like to make SurgSoc a place that is more welcoming and inclusive, and less intimidating. I'd like to widen membership, securing new sponsorship opportunities and using them to make events accessible, whilst also deepening collaborations with other societies including Friends of MSF and Vascular/Transplant to deliver CPD opportunities that are valuable and current.
I hope I can count on your support.
