Surgical: Executive Committee Member

Hello, I'm Jolie!

I've been a SurgSoc regular since first year, and serving on subcommittee this year has shown me everything that makes this society work - recruiting demonstrators and speakers, publicity, sponsorship pitches, and running events on the day. I've seen the full lifecycle, and I want to keep building on it.

On the operational side, my role as ICSM Water Polo's Social Secretary has given me a thorough working knowledge of eActivities: event proposals, risk assessments, and finances. All the behind-the-scenes work that keeps a society running smoothly.

My interest in orthopaedic and plastic surgery has helped me build lasting connections with surgeons across London and beyond. I'd love to strengthen these connections and continue bringing renowned speakers to our conferences.

As a tutor for the Junior Anatomy Teaching series, I've experienced first-hand how rewarding it is to pass knowledge down. Whether that's for written exams or CPAs/OSCEs, I want to keep making SurgSoc a space where students support each other.

On top of helping run our existing events, I aim to:

  • Increase mentoring/surgeon networking - an integral part of any student's surgical journey is finding inspiration from those who have walked the path before them.
  • Develop cross-society partnerships - collaborating with societies (from Imperial and other universities) to bring interdisciplinary events to the table.
  • Launch a SurgSoc newsletter - spotlighting innovation in the field, so inspiration reaches you between events, not just at them.

SurgSoc has defined my medical school journey. I'd love the chance to help define yours.
