Joanna Yassa
Surgery is arguably the most demanding fields in medicine encompassing technical skils and cognitive skills, requiring precision and sometimes even biomechanical understanding. I am running to aid in delivering events that are not only academically challenging but practical and career-shaping for every student involved: events that reflect the breadth of skills required of a surgeon and give students the exposure they need to guide their decisions.
Hi everyone! I'm Joanna and I am running for the role of executive committee member. I understand that this role holds a lot of responsibility and challenges but I am committed and enthusiastic about surgery so I will be sure to deliver everytime. I have been to the majority of surgical conferences, having even assisted in the orthopaedics conference, allowing for the smooth running of the events. I am thus familiar with the roles and responsibilites and have practised these skills prior. I have also helped organise and run the National Undergraduate Pathology Conference. Therefore, I believe I would be a strong executive committee member, helping to guide conferences and events throughout the year.
In addition to continuing the annual events, my initiatives include:
- Mentorship sign-up schemes at conferences which would also help increase research opportunities
- Additional workshops at conferences including laparoscopic simulation
- Surgical skills competitions
- Specialty application guidance
- Entrepreunership in surgery
I believe that with my experience and strong skills, I can help to make this one of the best years for SurgSoc and I hope you can see that too!!
