Muhammad Abdullah

Surgical: Executive Committee Member

Hi there, I'm Muhammad!

Long story short: I think surgery is pretty cool, and Surg Soc does a great job at giving students the opportunity to develop in this field.

The Surgical Society at Imperial is impressive. Having served on the International Orthopaedics Conference's Organising Committee and on the society's subcommittee, I've seen first-hand what goes into running these initiatives and what it takes to push the society to the next level.

Our priority should be making it accessible to everyone - simply giving everyone a chance to see what surgery is truly about.

I'd work with other Gen Execs and leadership to introduce initiatives like:

- An expanded 'Battle of the Specialities' series, building on the success of the event we ran with Muslim Medics this year.

- Surgical Socials with Surgeons, including informal networking events and dinners.

- A "Stories from the Scrubs" Speaker Series (less focused on academia and more on their real experiences).

- "Meet the Trainee" nights, where registrars and junior doctors give honest, practical advice on portfolios and life in surgical training.

- And lots of cross-society collabs.

Surgery shouldn't feel intimidating, and by making it more accessible and open to more people, we can help many more people gain a better understanding of what it entails.
