Jonathan Kow
Hi, I’m Jonathan and I am running to be your Executive Committee member. I have greatly enjoyed the events organised by Surgical Society, especially the mentorship program which enabled me to explore interesting research opportunities. I am strongly passionate about surgery and know many of my peers are too. Hence, I am running for this role to help organise more successful and interesting events in the coming year.
I believe that my experience as the President of Pharmacology Society and the Young Researchers’ Conference Lead in SORA has taught me many practical skills in planning events and collaborative skills in working with the Union to execute these events. Collectively, these skills make me well-equipped to effectively work in this position.
As an Executive Committee member, I will aim to:
Increase accessibility to events by:
- Exploring alternative and cheaper attendance possibilities for pricier events
- Increasing spaces for popular workshops
- Reaching out to more sponsors to reduce costs for events
Improve events by:
- Working on feedback received to refocus practical skills events on specific skills and specialities
- Streamlining the mentorship programme for faster mentor-mentee pairings
- Increasing the frequency of events such that more students have the opportunity to participate in them
Work closely with the committee by:
- Listening to concerns from members and relaying them to the committee
- Assisting in the development and execution of new events
- Providing feedback to facilitate the improvement of events
Thank you for reading my manifesto and I look forward to working with you!
