Anthea MacIntosh-LaRocque

Student Trustee

Hello! I’m Anthea and I’m running to be your Student Trustee.

I understand this role inside and out. At Imperial, I’ve held multiple leadership positions, including:

  • 3 years as Trustee & Union Council Chair
  • Student Representative to University Council
  • RCSU Vice President Welfare
  • Physics Departmental Wellbeing & Year Rep

The Board of Trustees is the Union’s most senior governing body, making decisions impacting the whole Imperial student community.

As a Trustee, I’ve built the skills and credibility to effectively advocate for the student perspective at the Union. Over the past year I have used my position on Board to:

  • Permanently embed student feedback in the Union’s strategy development cycle.
  • Advocate for Union spending to be informed by, and align with, the needs of Imperial students.
  • Support calls for change to the new orders app and wider systems issues.
  • Voice postgraduate student concerns at the highest level.
  • Communicate key issues impacting students (e.g., student perspectives on staff strikes).

Next year, as a Student Trustee, I will:

  • Listen to the student community: I commit to running termly drop-ins to hear what students want and need from the Union, to ensure I effectively represent our community.
  • Keep the student voice at the centre of Board meetings, by ensuring our charitable objectives are at the core of every decision.
  • Ensure the Union’s digital systems (eActivities, SUMS & web) support students, rather than providing unnecessary barriers.
  • Promote transparency about decisions made at Board by publicising decisions through Union social media and Felix.
