Medicine (UG): Phase 1c Academic Representative

Hey everyone, I’m Baba, and it would be an honour to be one of your Academic Representatives!

We’ve overcome 1st and 2nd year, but moving into our clinical years presents a completely new set of challenges we need to adapt to, so I want to help build the support system that will help us meet and exceed our expectations.

As former VP of the African Caribbean Society, amongst other leadership roles, I’ve developed the organisational, communication, and advocacy skills needed to seamlessly transition into this role and create meaningful change for our cohort.

After speaking with numerous 4th years to gather their feedback, these are my immediate priorities if elected:

  • Question Breakdown Sessions – In collaboration with the faculty, I’d arrange more targeted teaching sessions where we break down complex systems, training us how to narrow our differentials to the correct diagnosis.
  • Booster OSCE Week – In the week between our written exam and OSCEs, I’d like to organise a sign-up system for designated time in clinical skills labs across our teaching hospitals, allowing everyone to brush up on any last-minute practical skills.
  • Demystify Exam Content – Prompt communication on NICE and BMJ guideline changes, and how exactly they would impact our assessments.
  • Cost of Resources – A means-tested scheme to cover Passmed and Quesmed subscriptions for students who need financial support.

This is just the beginning of my vision. If elected, I promise to be a relentless voice for our year and do you proud. Thanks for your consideration!
