Amna Ghafoor
Hi everyone! I’m Amna, and I’m running for Academic Representative because “How much do we need to know?” should have a clearer answer than another message in the year group chat.
Year 3 brings an extensive list of conditions and the challenge of connecting textbook knowledge with clinical practice. I want to help us approach that challenge with clearer guidance and stronger communication between students and the School of Medicine.
As Personnel Officer for the 2025 Trauma Conference, alongside my involvement in the Surgical and Plastic Surgery Societies, I have developed strong organisational, communication and teamwork skills. These roles have taught me to work with different perspectives, coordinate responsibilities and keep things moving - skills I would bring to representing our cohort.
My priorities would be:
-
Clarifying Year 3 expectations: Gathering questions about the conditions list and seeking guidance from teaching staff on the depth of knowledge expected, particularly where students identify uncertainty.
-
Keeping you updated: Sharing concise updates after academic representative meetings, including the concerns raised, responses received and any agreed actions.
-
Representing the whole cohort: Gathering feedback regularly, including from students who may not feel comfortable raising concerns publicly.
-
Making communication useful: Advocating for timely, accessible information, particularly where guidance is unclear or scattered across different sources.
I would welcome the opportunity to represent our year and work with you to improve our academic experience.
So vote Amna for clearer academic guidance, better communication and a representative you can rely on! :)
