Hi everyone 👋! I’m Kaichen (Kevin) Wang from Qingdao, China, and I’d be honoured to serve as one of your Phase 1a Academic Reps.
Our first year has been hectic: the >50-slide/50-minute lectures and group teaching sessions, GOLs resources not appearing where they need to be, and the feeling that you’re somehow already behind on the week’s content on Monday (as I’m writing this on a Monday 😂).
Since arriving, I have already taken the initiative, contacting FEO about tutor group meeting scheduling clashes and faulty SparkForms logins to the Clinical Procedures Logbook. Now, I only hope to do more.
Individually, I will push for specific, actionable improvements:
- clearer learning outcomes each session
- practice questions on MedStep being sorted by topic
- access to recordings from past years in addition to current-year recordings and the scattered videos on Panopto from 2020.
Collectively, alongside ICSMSU Academic Officers and other reps, I will keep the student body updated on termly Staff-Student Liaison Group meetings, so the concerns you take the trouble to raise don’t just quietly disappear.
And this is not my first time. Having served my previous school’s student council for 7 years and advocated for changes to assessment, curriculum and compliance with external accreditation, I will bring the same motivation and skills to ICSM!
