Amrin Muhamed
Hi, I’m Amrin, a final-year Biochemistry student!
As someone approaching the end of my time at Imperial, I’ve experienced my fair share of frustrations with university life, particularly as a student from an underrepresented background. I want to use my experience to help make the Department of Life Sciences a more inclusive, supportive and accountable environment for everyone.
If elected, I would focus on four key areas:
Inclusivity and representation
- Ensuring students from all backgrounds feel included in departmental activities and socials through raising concerns about events scheduled during important religious holidays so that students aren't excluded from participating.
Human rights and student voices
- Advocating for students who want to raise awareness of human rights issues, including the ongoing situation in Palestine.
- Encouraging open, respectful discussions about humanitarian crises and ensuring students feel supported when expressing their concerns.
Student wellbeing and burnout
- Speaking openly about the stress and burnout that are far too common among Imperial students.
- Advocating for a healthier academic environment where student wellbeing is taken seriously and high academic standards don't come at the expense of our health.
Ultimately, I want to be a representative who listens, notices the issues others might overlook and isn't afraid to speak up. Having experienced these challenges myself, I understand how important it is to feel heard and represented. I would be committed to raising concerns constructively, pushing for meaningful improvements and making sure the experiences and voices of Life Sciences students are not ignored.
