Saanika Jain

Hey everyone! I’m Saanika, from Bangalore, India, and I’m running to be your UG Science First-Year Department Representative. 🧪 Between the excitement of starting university, meeting new people, and praying the fire alarm lets us get through one night in peace, first year has already been an adventure!

As your rep, I want to make sure our cohort feels heard, supported, and excited to learn. I aim to create a clear link between students and the department by regularly gathering your feedback, raising shared concerns with staff, and keeping everyone updated on the responses and changes that follow. I’d also love to strengthen our connections with lecturers, making it easier to discover summer research projects, internships, and other opportunities to explore biology beyond the classroom.

A little about my experience: I served as School Prefect and was part of student council for five years, representing a student body of over 1,800 students. From organising school events to advocating for student voices, I’ve learned that good representation means listening, following through, and working with people to turn ideas into action.

I genuinely love this department and can’t wait to see the opportunities, friendships, and adventures this year brings. Let’s make our first year one to remember 🧬🥼
