Ecesu Altug

Hi everyone! My name is Ecesu, but you might know me as Essie if you’ve had a hard time pronouncing it :) I’m running to be your 2nd year Academic Representative.

As an international student, I’ll admit that last year was hard. A new country, a new academic system, unwritten rules about what a “good” report looks like… Like many of you, I learned it the hard way, and I want this year to be easier for all of us.

Too many of our practical reports came back with little to no useful feedback before the next one was due. I’ll make it clear to staff how much clear feedback means to us as future scientists, and push for it to arrive in time to make a difference.

Practicals were often overwhelming, and it wasn’t always clear what was expected of us. After each lab, I’ll share a quick feedback form in the group chat and take your comments straight to the lecturers, so the issues don’t repeat.

I’ll turn advice from third years into simple guides, and gather mock exams so we can be prepared for the exam environment, because the stomach-drop feeling never gets easier.

After every Staff-Student Committee meeting, I’ll post a short summary on what was raised and what will change. And I’ll do my best to ensure lecture recordings are smooth and in-time.

I’ll always be a friendly face whenever the last-minute stress hits in the library, so come say hi!
