Hao Yin Bon
Hi fellow Year 2 Biochemists and Biotechnologists!
How is second year treating you so far? I am Hao Yin and I would love to represent you as your Academic Representative this year.
Before you read on, I have a few quick questions for you:
- Is the department uploading lectures so late that you don't have enough time to catch up before the next one?
- Did you struggle to hear some lectures because the audio wasn't recorded?
- Did your Monday timetable clash with I-Explore, leaving you completely confused?
- Did you spend your summer refreshing MyImperial wondering where our Y1 results were?
If you answered yes to at least one of these questions, then we are completely on the same page. You shouldn't have to navigate these hurdles alone, and as your Academic Rep, I will make sure the department fixes them in a timely manner.
During my A Levels, I was the Deputy Head Boy, where I liaised between the student body and the senior leadership team to voice student concerns and I am ready to bring that dedication to our cohort.
I strongly believe that clear, consistent communication between the department and students can prevent the kind of confusion we have all been experiencing lately. My action plan is:
- Proactive outreach: having frequent, casual check-ins to gather academic feedback/concerns.
- Consistently checking up with biochem.ug@imperial.ac.uk on any unresolved issues - be it timetable or Panopto uploads.
- Carry on the amazing work the previous academic reps have done!
