Sabirah Basit
Hi, I’m Sabirah, a second-year medical student with a strong interest in innovation and women’s health.
One of the reasons I’m particularly drawn to FemTech is the growing recognition that women’s health remains under-researched and underrepresented across many areas of healthcare - from cardiovascular disease and chronic pain to clinical trial representation. I believe it is important for us, as future clinicians and scientists, to actively highlight and address these disparities.
At the same time, I am particularly excited by the potential of technology to transform research, diagnosis and access to care, and I see FemTech as a space where innovation can confront the longstanding gaps in women’s health.
My previous experience has given me strong foundations in leadership and coordination. As Publicity Officer and Event Planner for ISoc Freshers’ Fortnight, I created large-scale events and media content for hundreds of freshers. As Campaigns Lead within ISoc’s Student Affairs Committee, I managed a team to execute speaker events and initiatives. As Sponsorship Officer for Charity Week, I liaised with external partners and helped raise approximately £60,000, strengthening my confidence in professional communication and partnership-building. Alongside this, my role as a Student Ambassador has developed my public speaking and group facilitation skills.
As Head of Subcommittee, I would focus on bringing cohesion across the Media, Events, External Liaison and Article Writing teams, ensuring clear direction, strategic planning and effective collaboration to maximise impact.
Thank you for reading! I would be grateful for the opportunity to contribute to an ambitious year for FemTech.
