Chemistry: Industrial Relations Officer

Hi, I’m Navendra, a first-year chemist hailing from Sri Lanka with a strong interest in bridging chemistry and industry.

During my gap year, I worked as an intern at a software company, and an observer at a medical laboratory. These two contrasting experiences let me bring tangible experience and front-row perspectives from industry to the table. Combined with my experience as a National Robotics Captain for Sri Lanka, I have the leadership, teamworking and communication skills needed to represent ChemSoc at the highest level.

If elected, I will push for the following:

  • “Chemistry and Industry” Series: monthly talks featuring speakers from industry – both chemical companies and other firms in areas such as consulting that hire chemistry graduates.
  • Building a tailored Artificial Intelligence Powered Career Tool for Imperial Chemistry Students - this would be fine-tuned to answer any job-related queries for students who want a quick point of reference
  • Exploring the possibility of partnering with employers based in other countries
  • Alumni Networking: engaging with the Imperial Chemistry Alumni Network more by inviting members for panel discussions, networking events, and mentorship schemes.
  • Creating a centralized community-driven job-alert-sharing software platform for the Imperial Chemistry Community.
  • CV Review Workshops led by industry professionals and alumni

I believe ChemSoc can play a stronger role in creating meaningful opportunities that link students with industry, and I am committed to working with the rest of the committee to make these opportunities accessible for every chemistry student.
