DoCSoc: Sponsor Liaison and Industrial Events Coordinator

Hi, I’m Lukas. I know first-hand how much DoCSoc sponsors matter. I got an interview just from talking to a company at a DoCSoc event, which grew into meaningful relationships with recruiters and engineers, and even an invitation to dinner. I want every student to have opportunities like that, not just with one type of company, but across the whole industry.

Here's how I'll make that happen for everyone:

  • More 6-Month Placements: If a company has a stall at the sponsors' exhibition, they should be offering placements that work for everyone, including third-year MEng students. Right now, too many sponsors only run summer internships, locking out a huge chunk of our department. I'll push to make 6-month placements a standard expectation for any company that wants to be at the forefront of DoCSoc.
  • Broader Sponsor Variety: DoCSoc’s current sponsor list is dominated by quant. That's not a particularly bad thing, but it creates a gravity that pulls students toward optimising for one career path, sometimes before they've even explored what else is out there. I want to add more sponsors from a wider range of fields like AI, healthtech, robotics, startups and more so that DoCSoc reflects the full breadth of what a computing degree can lead to.
  • More Workshops: Hands-on experiences with companies is one of the best ways to explore what you'd enjoy in industry, while also building real connections.

Vote Lukas, and I'll make sure you get the opportunities to kickstart your career.
