Neuroscience: Speaker Series Coordinator

My love for neuroscience stems from undertaking an EPQ in which I explored the development of the brain as one ages and how this influences one’s intelligence. During this project, I contacted multiple professors to gain their viewpoint on the arguments I proposed in my essay, looking for any assistance that they could provide to my dissertation. Therefore, I am extremely comfortable and proficient in being able to reach out to top professors and speakers in the field of neuroscience, where I could then give talks on intriguing topics within the field.

Having chaired the TedX talks at my school, I have experience in being able to organise a successful speaker-based event, providing me with invaluable organisational, leadership and problem-solving skills, that will be translatable in organising a speaker series. Furthermore, whilst hosting several fundraising events to raise money for charity, I managed to overcame many challenges, enhancing my problem-solving skills and communication skills.

Some of my main ideas for the speaker series are as follows:

  1. Having talks on a wide range of topics within neuroscience ranging from how the different aspects of the brain works to neurodegenerative diseases to what a day in the life of a neuroscientist would be like
  2. Introducing interactive, Q&A sessions with neuroscientists and neurosurgeons to answer any questions that students have
  3. Hosting live speaker sessions, on top of online sessions to really improve audience engagement with the speakers, making all the talks , a more pleasant experience for both the speakers and the students
