Sudharshan Palaniappa

Hi everyone! My name is Sudharshan, and I am a second-year medical student who is running for the position of Treasurer in Surgical Society.

Having attended multiple events organised by SurgSoc in the last year, I have become inspired to take up a bigger role in the society. As Treasurer, I could explore my interest in the field of surgery while contributing to the society through a position that best employs my skills and qualities. I have served in the committees and subcommittees of multiple other societies such as OncoSoc, MedTech and SORA, making me familiar with the aspects of budgeting and cash flow to ensure that events are of high-quality but also financially sustainable. I would update transaction records promptly, keep the committee informed of the finances, and support the event-organisers with budgeting.

Prior to university, I served multiple terms as a Class Treasurer in my school, helping to manage a class fund and taking care of financial matters for charity events which we engaged in. I have thus become familiar with aspects of the position such as budgeting, fundraising, record-keeping, and financial reporting. I am focussed and detail-oriented, ensuring that the funds are handled with care and no mistakes are made. The analytical skills that I have developed would also be helpful.

Beyond these experiences and skills, I am most excited to bring my passion and commitment to this position to ensure that I can overcome any challenges.
