A bit about me:
Hi, I’m Mehru, a first-year Biologist! I’m from Monifieth, Scotland and my Biology horror story is that I panicked when I saw/ met Katalin Kariko and ran away.
Why me?
- Involved in/ ran societies ranging from Eco-club, MUN, Latin club; developed a variety of skills; I have become rather good at stress-management and using Excel at every given opportunity for organisation.
- School captain (2025 – 2026); managed more than 60 prefects; in charge of planning large-scale events (over 100 people) such as ceilidhs and the end of year prom; organised everything from venue booking, catering to centrepieces.
- I enjoy the element of stress that comes with roles such as being the secretary or a school captain and feel I use it well to yield results!
- I also love working as part of a team and learning from each other.
Aims and Objectives:
- Actively communicate with all members to ensure no one is ever out of the loop.
- Try to collaborate with other societies and plan events together; these can potentially be extended to other universities as well.
- Engage with more high-profile scientists and invite them for events; ensure all the necessary arrangements are made.
- Discuss the possibility of having more international events/ participating in them e.g. collaboration with international universities or research institutes and effectively executing this vision.
- Creating opportunities, catering to different pupil interests and skill-sets (a mixture of relatively low-key and advanced events).
- Advocating for more funds for socials (e.g. having society field trips).
