Reinventing our common room

Student wellbeing starts with having a space of your own, and that space is the common room. Yet when I ask Year 1s about it, the usual reply is “We have a common room?” Those who do find it are often underwhelmed.

I want to change that. Reinventing the common room is a chance to bring our year into the life of the department, to work together, and to show that student input matters. The aim is a space where everyone feels comfortable and at home.

As your Year 1 DoC Wellbeing Rep, I’ll make sure every voice is heard and everyone can help shape the space we all share.

Experience
On my high school’s Prefect Team, I helped run and prepare front-facing events and spoke with prospective and current students and their parents. As a CS Mentor, I supported students with their academic struggles and with whatever else was on their minds.

Personal goals
I came from Ukraine to the UK in summer 2022, and after four years of support here, I want to give something back. This role is the perfect way to do it. I’ll work hard to make our year feel like a family where everyone feels supported and heard.
