Postgraduate study has become a necessity rather than an option due to the increasingly deteriorating job market, causing students to have to sustain themselves financially through extra years of low/no income. This is why my manifesto focuses on funding and boosting employability.
Funding: As someone who would not have been able to pursue postgraduate study if it weren't for a faculty stipend, I appreciate the immense need for funding for postgraduates. I will work towards better advertisement of available funding and financial support options to students.
Industry-relevant modules: I will work to encourage more lecturers to host industry guests lecturers in PGT moduels, allowing students to make better connections of how their skills relate to roles that interest them, identify their skill and knowledge gaps, and make more informed decisions when choosing their modules.
International student support by proposing year-round in-person immigration drop-ins as well as sessions that help students explore their options after postgraduate study in the UK, including guidance navigating graduate visas and job sponsorships
Collecting feedback regularly throughout the year to ensure any issues arising could be signposted to the correct staff member and dealt with swiflty
Ethical partnerships: I will keep human rights on the council's agenda by supporting motions to ensuire ethical decision-making is a priority in the union's investments, policies, and partnerships.
Your Ideas: I am running to be YOUR representative! If you have any ideas that you think should be added to this manifesto, please reach out :D
