Anthea MacIntosh-LaRocque
Council Representative (PG Engineering)
Hello! I’m Anthea and I’m running to be your postgraduate representative on Union Council.
At Imperial, I’ve held multiple leadership positions, including:
- 3 years as Union Council Chair
- 3 years as a Trustee of the Union
- Student Representative to University Council
- Faculty Welfare Representative
- Departmental Wellbeing & Year Rep
Union Council is the highest democratically elected voice for students at Imperial, shaping the Union's policy and making decisions impacting the whole Imperial student community. It is also the forum charged with holding the leaders of the Union, the Officer Trustees, to account.
Having been Council Chair for the past 3 years, I understand how Council works and how to effectively advocate for change.
Next year, as your Council representative, I will:
- Hold the Officer Trustees to their promises to postgraduates.
- Keep the postgraduate student voice central to all Council discussions and decisions.
- Promote transparency and accessibility in how the Union is run.
- Ensure the Union’s digital systems (eActivities, SUMS & web) support students, rather than providing unnecessary barriers.
How will I achieve this?
- Question the Officer Trustees on how they are upholding their commitments and highlight where they are falling short.
- Review the governing documents of the Union, removing inconsistencies and improving clarity.
- In collaboration with other representatives, define a core set of postgraduate-specific priorities, backed up with data, to show the Union what kind of representation and support we want and need.
