Derin Oksuz

Hello everyone, I’m Derin and I’m running to be a part of the Imperial LGBTQ+ Network! When I first came to the UK seeing pride flags everywhere was revolutionary for me coming from a more conservative country. Until then I felt like I had to hide, and that I could only be myself around my close friends. Even after years of living here, every time I see a rainbow flag, I feel seen.

Seeing queer people unapologetically being themselves always brings me immense joy. I believe it’s really important to take care of our community in these challenging times. I want everyone in this school to be able to feel seen and welcome. I hope to create a safe space for queer people and organise events such as picnics in collaboration with other societies where our community can come together.
