Physics (UG): Year Two Academic Representative

Hello everyone! Jeffrey here, running to be your year 2 academic rep. I've done my homework and chatted to the previous year 2 rep, and below are some things I will work on as your rep for this upcoming year:

  • Labs, we all know they are daunting, especially now that we spend 8 sessions on a single experiment. From past years' feedback the radioactivity discussion sessions have been helpful, so why shouldn't the department implement them for the other labs as well? Following last year, this year I will continue advocating for them, so the transition from year 1 lab to these more open ended labs will be smoother and easier.
  • Tutorial attendance is notoriously low: a problem is chosen from a problem sheet, then people would have either finished the problem or have not yet been caught up. To address this I aim to communicate with the department to work out some original tutorial problems, tailored such that they are (suitably) behind the current lecture content.
  • Those two aside, I will look for opportunities where I can foster a more collective academic environment in our year, in the form of study groups and, perhaps, encouraging "peer reviewing" others' waves presentations. (Personally I'm quite excited about it)

If this sounds good to you, I hope I earned your vote!
