Physics (UG): Year One Academic Representative

Providing change with both magnitude and direction

Hi, I am Adam, a first-year physics student standing to be the Year 1 Academic Representative. I am passionate about astrophysics, and I spent a lot of time before university working at start-ups, where I learnt first hand the importance of regular feedback.

It might only be a few weeks into our course, but that only makes this an even better time to evaluate what has gone smoothly, and what hasn't.

Under my tenure, I plan to achieve this through the following:

  1. Run a 24/7 anonymous feedback form, open all year for students to raise issues about lectures, problem sheets, or labs as soon as they come up, not just in end-of-term surveys.
  2. Hold regular drop in sessions, so you can talk to me face to face about anything on your mind, regardless of its scale.
  3. Advocate for clearer, more consistent problem sheet solutions across every module, released promptly so that you can check your answers while they are fresh.
  4. Push for more coding support for students that have little experience in the area, so nobody falls behind.

On top of that, transparency is paramount for me, and so after every student-staff meeting, I will report on what was raised and what's changing.

While I can't rewrite the course on my own, I will make sure that your voices will be heard by those that can make change.
