Hi, I'm Ram, and I'd be honoured to be your Academic Rep.
During my gap year last year, I worked as a maths teaching assistant at my old secondary school, so I know just how stressful academic life can be: both as a student and as a teacher!
What struck me was how important it is to bridge the gap between staff and students; classes with greater trust and understanding between students and teachers always performed better.
Creating this environment of open, honest communication is key to success in any academic setting. With my teaching experience, I'll be able to achieve just that in our department!
If I'm fortunate enough to be your Academic Rep, you can count on me to:
- Ensure that every comment you raise receives a carefully considered answer from staff – I've sat in countless department meetings as a teaching assistant, so I know exactly how to frame feedback in a way that can be easily acted upon by the faculty.
- Push for ways to reduce stress caused by clashing assessments and deadlines, without sacrificing the intensity that makes our course so special and respected.
- Be an approachable and patient face around campus, always ready to listen without judgement – whether you're looking for advice or just need to vent!
Together, we can make Year 1 of Mechanical Engineering smoother, giving us more time to enjoy the things that made us want to become mechanical engineers in the first place!
