I keep my eye on the doughnut and not on the hole.
I am not the most cracked guy you will meet on the course, but I am fairly organised with all of the things going on. I attend as many events as I can, keep on top of my homework and of course I dedicate some time for going out. That makes me a very average first-year, but it also means I am at the top of the normal distribution curve, i.e. the perfect Academic Rep: I have the same difficulties with the course, face the same deadlines and find the same bits confusing as you.
Everyone is biased, but I am biased towards the middle. I will make sure to hear from everyone, so my concerns with course structure or delivery will never become too detached from anyone. I'll collect feedback through short polls after lectures and take it to the Department Representatives, so every student's voice is heard. This is the way to raise issues at Departmental level.
I won't simply advise to give up on your family, friends, dogs and cats for your academics, or to give up on your academics for your family, friends, dogs and cats. However, I can help you keep up with your studies and enjoy your life at the same time (and don't worry, I'll push for a course that lets you do both).
With that said, vote for me to not miss out on your dog or degree.
