Chemistry (UG): Year One Academic Representative

Hi, I'm Valentina and I’m running to be your Year One Academic Rep.

As a first year chemistry student, I’ve noticed that many of us are expected to use physics and maths we never studied at A-level or IB. Many chemistry lectures require a base level of physics, and I have heard time and time again how it is making my friends feel significantly out of their depth.

Other courses rely on maths, biology and chemistry the same way. Lectures are fast paced, and a gap in your background can feel like you're already starting behind when it's only the first two weeks!

That’s what I want to fix.

My main goal: optional recap sessions in Physics, Maths, Biology and Chemistry for students whose courses use this content but whose prior study didn’t cover it.

How I’ll do it:

  • Survey first-years to find which topics people struggle with
  • Work with staff and older students to run short, targeted sessions
  • Keep them optional and open to every department
  • Share written or recorded resources for anyone who can’t attend

I understand the challenges you're facing right now because I’m facing them too, and I’ll represent you as someone who is in the same position.

Beyond this, I’ll be your voice in staff-student meetings, bring your feedback to those who can act on it, and report back on what changes.

Vote Valentina for a stronger start.
