Boutayna El Harrak Hajri
I am Boutayna El Harrak Hajri, a biomedical engineering student particularly interested in neuroengineering, and I'm running to be the secretary of this society.
This year, I have taken part in seminars and workshops centred around neurotechnology, gaining practical skills beyond theory. I recently participated in the Neurotech Hackathon organised by this society, where my team and I used live EEG data to decode a person's interest in a short movie clip they were shown, and generated its continuation based on their engagement using AI. Most other participants were more experienced than I was, but I took that as an opportunity to learn from them and broaden my understanding of neurotechnology, reflecting my determination in unfamiliar situations.
Determination and enthusiasm are what I bring to this role. If I get elected, I will maintain clear communication between committee members to ensure the smooth running of the society, take precise and concise minutes during meetings, and readily help other committee members with event coordination and any other tasks requiring my help.
These aren't empty promises. As House Captain and Chair of the Student Council of my Sixth Form, I have led meetings, coordinated teams, and supervised the organisation of various academic and social events. I have also participated in several Model United Nations conferences, which sharpened my public speaking skills and ability to communicate clearly and persuasively under pressure.
My experiences and motivation will be an asset to this society, so vote Boutayna for a driven, organised, and genuinely passionate Secretary!
