Yan Ni Chong
Stepping into my 12th year of the ITF Taekwondo journey, I want to contribute more to this sport that has built my resilience and confidence over the years. Along the journey, lack of logistical support, the need for more focused coaching, and seeing peers giving up inspired me on the importance of having sufficient support. I was lucky that I did not give up during the tough times and gained more support later, allowing me to achieve my black belt 1st dan. I once thought it was too late to compete on a bigger stage when I had to quit to study outside of my hometown. After I joined this society, I saw that nothing is too late. In fact, a lot of people who started Taekwondo in college are my inspirations. Therefore, I want to provide support for all the members when they need it.
If I get elected:
- For ITF athletes, I can provide technical suggestions for improvement, especially in poomsae.
- For all members, my experience in this sport allows me to share my previous struggles and how I overcame them, especially when you need moral support during competitions.
- I will continue previous ITF captain's efforts in guiding everyone, regardless of grade, in volunteering as umpires in competitions.
- I will be a committed committee member in supporting all initiatives by the committee board.
I believe my leadership experience in the high-commitment welfare officer position in Malaysian Society this year will make me a reliable ITF captain.
