I am excited to run for Publicity Officer because I believe the Oncology Society plays a crucial role in raising awareness of a field that is both scientifically evolving and deeply impactful. Through its events and initiatives, the society provides students with valuable academic insight and an opportunity to engage with important conversations surrounding cancer research and care. Effective promotion is essential to ensure these opportunities reach as many students as possible.
Through my experience in leadership and media roles, I have developed strong organisational skills and a clear understanding of how structured and consistent publicity enhances engagement. As current Secretary and Senior Social Media Lead for the Institute of Medical Ethics, I regularly manage communications and understand the importance of clarity, timing, and professional presentation. These experiences have shown me that successful promotion is not simply about visibility, but about creating momentum and sustained interest.
If elected, I would focus on:
Ensuring timely and well-structured promotion of events, allowing students adequate notice to engage and attend.
Maintaining cohesive and recognisable branding across social media and promotional materials.
Introducing speaker spotlights or brief educational highlights to build anticipation before events.
Encouraging collaboration with other societies to expand outreach and increase visibility.
The Oncology Society’s work is both meaningful and academically enriching. I would be committed to promoting its initiatives in a way that is organised, engaging, and reflective of the importance of the field.
