Debanshi Chatterjee
Our religion and culture promote three types of unity: within yourself through spiritual growth, within your community through seva and establishing harmony, and with God through bhakti and devotion. To create this unity, we need to explore and understand the values we are taught by questioning them until we feel satisfied.
By standing for the role of Sanskar coordinator, I aim to integrate learning our religion via different activities, so everyone can connect to Bhagvan in their own unique way. The additional activities I propose to introduce include:
- Biweekly Bhajans - We all know how soothing bhajans are, like for Shivratri, and how they align your mind to focus on Bhagvan. These help take your mind off the constant hustle of university life, be present in the moment and embrace the positive vibrations.
- Monthly Mandir visits - It's easy to feel distant from Bhagvan while away from home without the background mantras. Visiting mandirs across London (and yes, there are many beautiful mandirs) with everyone can help connect with our religion and those around us.
- Short Weekly Discussions - Carrying on the tradition of discussing different topics (e.g. the Ramayan, Mythology, etc.) allows us to raise questions we may not have considered before.
Ultimately, I want to help others further their own spiritual growth whilst navigating university life. We all have our goals and dreams, and if you're reading this right now, then you must also be excited to explore our religion further. Embark on this journey with HinduSoc by voting for me!
