Obstetrics & Gynaecology: Conference Co-Chair

Hi, I’m Anika, a second-year medical student, and I’m excited to apply for the role of ICOGS Co-Conference Chair. I am eager not only to help plan, organise and deliver the annual conference, but also to contribute to other academic events throughout the year. Having attended the ICOGS conference and presented a poster, I understand how impactful a well-run conference can be for academic development and networking. Attending journal clubs strengthened my professional communication skills and gave me insight into what makes an academic programme engaging and inclusive for students at different stages of interest in obstetrics and gynaecology.

I have developed the organisational, leadership and teamwork skills required for this position through previous committee roles. Through the MWF sponsorship subcommittee, I strengthened my time management skills, communicated with external bodies and understood how a conference is planned. As a Sexpression Events Officer, I gained practical experience planning the 'Best If you Test' event, developing themes and delegating tasks to ensure smooth execution. These roles demonstrate my dedication, flexibility and ability to balance multiple commitments.

If elected, I would work closely with the other chair and committee to develop a cohesive theme, delegate tasks and ensure strategic planning from the outset. I would collaborate with academic and sponsorship officers to coordinate abstracts and workshops, promote the conference widely, and introduce initiatives such as speed mentoring, a charity raffle and recording access to maximise engagement and accessibility. I am so keen to be a Co-Conference chair and help enhance the conference!
