Obstetrics & Gynaecology: Conference Co-Chair

Hi guys! My name is Aayla, and I am a Medical Biosciences student with aspirations to pursue medicine. I recently joined the Obs & Gynae Society and was genuinely blown away by the immersive experience of the conference. The talks from healthcare professionals were eye-opening, particularly around gender bias in medicine, overlooked reproductive health issues, and the societal narratives surrounding pregnancy. It strengthened my passion for women’s health and inspired me to take a more active role.

As Conference Co-Chair, my goal would be to build on this strong foundation and elevate the conference’s reach, impact, and inclusivity.

I would aim to curate a programme that balances clinical excellence with critical conversations; addressing topics such as obstetric difficulties, maternal mental health and its effects on foetal development, and the modern-day fear-mongering surrounding pregnancy. Pregnancy and childbirth are too often framed through anxiety and risk; I want to promote evidence-based discussions that empower rather than alarm.

Most importantly, I want the conference to remain inspiring. It should spark curiosity, challenge assumptions, and encourage students to pursue O&G not only as a specialty, but as a space for advocacy and research-driven change.
