Oncology: Academic Officer

Hi everyone! I am Amogh, a second-year medical student with a passion for oncology. I’m excited to be running for Academic Officer, a role that would allow me to get involved and give back to the society by planning events and organising talks.

This year, I attended the oncology conference, where I gained valuable insight into this field, which piqued my interest. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience, and it motivated me to take on a committee role, so that I can get involved and help plan future initiatives

If elected, I will plan and arrange further journal clubs and research talks to arrange interesting yet insightful events for the members of the oncology society. I will work closely with the executive committee to plan this and will step up whenever needed, not just limiting myself to the role I am selected for. Having had experience with systematic reviews, and understanding the importance of this in medical education, I will arrage research driven talks as well, especially aimed at the 1st and 2nd year students, who can learn the basics about what research is and if possible, I would love to arrage a workshop teaching them the necessary skills. Additionally, I aim to liaise with academic societies like SurgSoc and HaemSoc, hosting crossdisciplinary events that highlight the interplay oncology has with other specialties.

I believe I am able to bring strong event-planning and leadership skills to this role. Most importantly, I am committed to making Onco Soc’s academic initiatives more profound.
