I am running for Industrial Liaison Officer because the Imperial SpaceSoc is genuinely well-placed to offer its members something most university societies cannot, real connections to one of the fastest-growing sectors out there. I just do not think we are fully making the most of that yet.
A lot of industry engagement at student societies comes down to occasional talks and a few logos on a sponsorship page. That is fine, but it is not really what companies or students are looking for. I want our external relationships to be more substantive, working with organisations that actually engage with our members, building genuine partnerships rather than collecting passive sponsors.
That means being more thoughtful about who we partner with, planning further ahead, and building relationships that last beyond a single academic year. I would also like to create clearer options for members to get more directly involved, whether that is internships, live projects, or just better access to people actually working in the industry.
I am someone who is comfortable in professional settings and good at figuring out what different people want from a conversation, which I think is what this role actually needs. Not just someone who can send emails, but someone who can build relationships that go somewhere.
SpaceSoc has the talent. I want to make sure the industry knows it.
