Inaaya Ijaz
Hi everyone, I’m Inaaya and I’m running to be your Vice President of Operations.
PhySoc already offers a great range of events, but I believe we should always be asking: how can we make the experience even better? I want to focus not just on maintaining what we have, but on continuously developing and strengthening the society for all members.
My key goals would be:
1. Strengthening the Physics Mums and Dads system
While the initial meet-up is valuable, I would encourage more structured and informal follow-up events throughout the year. This would give first years multiple opportunities to build meaningful connections and make the system more supportive overall.
2. Expanding outreach and widening access to physics
I want to expand the number of outreach opportunities PhySoc is involved in, showcasing physics to students from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Through greater engagement with schools, accessible events, and collaboration with widening participation programmes, we can help make physics more visible and inclusive.
3. Creating a clear pathway for new ideas
I would implement a simple online submission form for members to propose event ideas, ensure proposals are reviewed at a designated point in committee meetings, and provide clear follow-up on outcomes so ideas are either developed or given constructive feedback.
As the current Year 1 Physics Academic Representative, I regularly communicate student concerns, attend meetings, and help translate feedback into action. I would bring this experience to ensure PhySoc continues to grow in a thoughtful, structured, and responsive way.
