Naz Gorgun
Biology: President
Hi everyone! I'm Naz, one of your Y1 Academic Reps.
I think that BioSoc has never lacked good ideas. However, we’ve lacked follow-through. Good plans often get stuck in the pipeline, communication can be hit-or-miss, and our committee works incredibly hard but often faces burnout.
As an Academic Rep, I’ve already spent the year navigating the department and the Union. I understand the limitations we face, but I also know where the opportunities are.
As President, I'll build on the energy and creativity we have as a community to start traditions to make BioSoc unique.
My vision:
- Addressing the funding gap: We shouldn't rely on Union pocket change. I'll lead the push for external sponsorships, targeting partners like AstraZeneca and Oxford NanoPore. This funding will go directly toward subsidising trips and high-ticket events like an Annual BioSoc Dinner (introducing traditions!)
- Administration: I’ll take on the burden of eActivities, room bookings, and Union bureaucracy, so our committee can focus on delivering you the experience you want.
- Joint society events: Some of the best events are the ones we don’t do alone. This year’s Oxbridge x Imperial BioSoc varsity event proved how valuable cross-society collaboration can be.
- Academic events: I’ll leverage my current Rep links with staff to ensure our speaker series and research presentations stay high-profile and consistent.
- Direct communication: If you have an idea, you’ll have a direct line to me to see if it’s feasible.
If that’s the BioSoc you want, I’d love your vote!
Thank you :)
