Biochemistry (UG): Departmental Wellbeing Representative

Hi everyone! My name is Ashmita Paul, a first-year Biotechnology student, and I am running for the position of Biochemistry Departmental Wellbeing Representative.

Let me be honest... Biochemistry can be exciting but challenging at times. I lost count of how many times I felt overwhelmed by the fast-paced lectures, competitive environment, and wellbeing dilemmas. However, I want to assure you all that you are not experiencing this alone; we are all on the same boat here, and I am passionate about creating an environment where every student feels heard and can openly discuss their opinions, so we can come up with solutions.

I am a worthy candidate for this role as I am approachable, empathetic, and determined to support my peers. I understand the demanding nature of this course, so I will collect feedback via surveys, discussions with peers during sessions (e.g., Takeover Tuesdays), find key wellbeing issues, and implement solutions. Some example ideas include organising games after exam sessions for students to decompress, or making an anonymous panel for students to give feedback and us giving updates on our progress (more details can be found on the campaign poster). Your voice matters, and I will help turn your feedback into action. Excellence should never be achieved at the cost of your wellbeing, and I will strive for your Biochemistry experience to be balanced and fulfilling.
