Physics (UG): Departmental Wellbeing Representative

Hi, I’m Jessica. I’m a first-year Physics student and I’m running for Departmental Wellbeing Representative.

I believe that student wellbeing is extremely important - from academic pressure and workload to simply not feeling part of the department - and I would work with Wellbeing Representatives from each year to ensure that it is prioritised. I want to help create an environment where every student feels supported and listened to, and if they aren’t, to know they have someone they can talk to who will listen and help enact change.

I would aim to:

  • Improve communication between wellbeing representatives and their cohorts
  • Organise fun, non-academic events, potentially alongside Physoc and WiP (Women and Non-Binary Individuals in Physics)
  • Act on any student feedback, communicating with members of staff if necessary

Although I’m quite new to the department, I believe that I bring some relevant skills to the table. Having held leadership roles in Sixth Form, I’m used to working with peers to represent their views clearly and constructively. I understand the importance of approachability, discretion, and following through on concerns raised.

Thank you for considering me — I’d really value your ideas or suggestions, so please feel free to come and chat to me!
