Physics (UG): Departmental Wellbeing Representative

Hello everyone! My name is Maria and I’m a third-year Physics student. There’s nothing I want more than for all students in this Department to be doing as well as they possibly can. I care deeply about this community and want to do everything I can to strengthen it. We all have so much to learn from each other.

Having been the Year 3 wellbeing rep this year, I’ve had the opportunity to voice many of our concerns. I’ve helped make face masks and hand sanitiser available in the common room, opened discussions about the amount of workload, and even organised a research project looking into whether, and how, a reading week might be implemented. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed hearing all of your feedback and would love to continue doing so next year at a Department level.

I have so many ideas for the department, from more informal events with members of staff to notice boards where older years can share encouraging messages with younger years. But what I’m most looking forward to is speaking with all of you and marvelling at the beautiful ideas and collaborations that can emerge simply from caring and paying attention. I hope you’ll consider voting for me, and please come say hi if you see me around, I’d love to hear any ideas or suggestions you’d like to share.
