ICSMSU: Academic Officer (BSc Year)

I am running for Academic Officer (BSc Year) because I believe that students deserve clear representation and transparency about what is being done on their behalf.

In my current role as an academic rep for my BSc pathway, I regularly collect student feedback through termly surveys, collate this into a structured report, and raise key issues with the pathway faculty and the academic officer. I act as a conduit between students and staff, escalating concerns around assessments, teaching and timetabling to ensure that the voices of our cohort are accurately represented. This experience has given me practical insight into the responsibility of the role, especially around responsibility and ensuring student concerns are properly addressed.

If elected, my priority will be to ensure clear, two-way communication between the academic reps of each BSc pathway, departmental staff and faculty. I will make sure I am approachable to the academic reps and support them in carrying out their roles confidently. I am committed to presenting evidence-based feedback to the faculty, working constructively with faculty and the Deputy President (Education), and tracking actions throughout the year to ensure continuity and accountability.

Furthermore, I will maintain a closed feedback loop, where I will provide regular updates to students on what has been raised, what progress has been made, and what outcomes are realistically achievable. If issues fall outside my remit, I will signpost appropriately and work within clear boundaries.

Thank you for taking the time to read this! I would really appreciate your support and vote!
