Asha de Silva

Disabilities Network Member

I am a second-year computing student and am running for re-election for the Disabled Students' Network (previously the Disabled Students' Welfare Officer) because I want Imperial to do more to support disabled students.

Over the past year, I have worked to raise awareness and understanding of disability rights on campus. I have created advocacy materials for students, supported Disability History Month events, developed social media content on Disability Campaigns, spoken about learning accessibility at a Student Voice talk, and contributed to an inclusivity workshop at Imperial’s Festival of Teaching and Learning.

If re-elected, I will continue creating resources that support and inform the community, while focusing on increasing communication and engagement between the Liberation and Community Networks and the wider student body to ensure our voices are heard. I will continue representing disabled students at union meetings and LCN forums, and I am particularly committed to:

  • Protecting and improving wellbeing support for disabled students in halls.

  • Working with DAS to improve access to disability accomodations and communication with staff.

  • Ensuring library services at the Abdus Salam Library, including study rooms and the wellbeing room, are as accessible as possible for those who rely on it.

  • Improving the conditions of accessible toilets throughout the university's campuses.

Thank you for taking the time to read and vote.
