Hey, I’m Yusuf, a first-year student, as well as the first-year academic representative. Even though I am a 1st year, being the year-rep made me understand the responsibilites and expectations of bigger roles, and motivated me towards to running for the departmental representative role.
I am running because I want to be able to do more for our department, for us, rather than just respond "Okay, I will ask the dep reps about it" when you raise your concerns. My main goal is to create a more supporting envrionment to make Chemical Engineering education experience better for everyone.
I believe this kind of environment is best achieved by bringing people closer together. Personally, I’ve learned the most in our student space in RODH, talking to and getting advice from students in other years. I want to strengthen these connections across the cohort and between different year groups, and make it easier for students to feel heard.
I am eager to take responsibilities to organize large-scale events like the annual Newitt Lecture as well, and will do anything for it to live up to the high standards set by our Dep Reps this year.
