Anton Pustygin
Howdily-doodily! I'm Anton – 4th year chemist, veteran ChemSoc member, running for the UG Science Council Representative role.
As a naturally outgoing person, one of my biggest strengths is being able to connect easily with people, both within FoNS and beyond. I talk to a lot of students on a regular basis, which gives me a good sense of the different issues people face depending on their department. So I suppose that puts me in a solid position to bring a wide range of views to Union Council and raise points that reflect what students actually care about (not just what ends up in meeting minutes).
I’ve been ChemSoc’s First Year Representative for the past few years, and I’m now serving as President. Both roles have meant working with a large number of students, whether its helping freshers settle in to managing a committee and running events. This experience has taught me how to listen, balance different opinions, and still manage to get things done.
Whether it’s helping someone feel supported or pushing for changes that benefit everyone, I’ve always tried to be someone people can rely on, even if that means being the one to stay up at 3 am to get something done. If elected, I’ll take that same approach to Council: practical, committed, and focused on making things better for science students.
