Paediatrics: Community & Outreach Chair

Hi, I’m Akilesh and I would love to be the Community and Outreach Chair for next year. I have tried to be as involved in Paediatrics society as much as I possible could have been this year, having volunteered at play team at every opportunity, attending the annual conference and examining for the London Paediatrics’ conference MMI station for sixth form students.

One of the most important areas of this role is maintaining relationships with schools. I have had experience in leasing with schools through my experience in the past 2 years with Teddy Bear Hospital, with 1 year on committee and going into the next year as school liaison officer where my main role will be to communicate with schools to organise visits. I have also had experience in the past on numerous occasions of going to secondary schools and sixth forms to help improve the outreach of medicine in these students.

Part of this role is also making resources for school visits which I have had experience with through Teddy Bear Hospital as Equipment Officer as we helped to make a variety of new stations for collaborations with other societies.

Furthermore, I have had prior experience in Widening Participation projects for prospective medical students through volunteering with a charity in Leicester who run MMI circuits for applicants from diverse backgrounds.
