Yoon-Jee Nam
Hey everyone! My name is Yoon-Jee and I'd love to be your Chemical Engineering Year 1 Academic Representative this year. You may have seen me in the gym, on the Harlington hockey pitch, or in Metric during these past few weeks, but if not...nice to meet you! I'm standing for Academic Representative because I would love the chance to be the approachable person that connects everyone's voices to the department, regardless of how new we are to the course. The role of being the connection between teachers and students is something I have done for the past year at school, where I introduced a self-reflection system for end of term reports that would then be discussed with tutors.
My vision this year is to create an engaging, accessible atmosphere in lectures by learning about the teaching methods that work best for all of us. I'm living in Woodward halls (North Acton), so I understand that spending time on campus has to be optimised to make that 40 minute commute worth it. We will be part of the future of chemical engineering, and we deserve the best academic opportunities here. This includes knowing what you need to do and when, getting academic support you need, and most importantly having a healthy work-life balance. The latter is something I can work on with the Wellbeing Representative but also discuss with Academic Representatives of other years to listen to their advice on how we can, not just survive, but thrive this year.
