Hi everyone! My name is Mekumi, a first-year biology student, and I am running to be your publicity officer for the next academic year!
My experiences as a leader and founder of my secondary school’s Cultural Society and my role within Equality Ambassadors as a leader and presenter has equipped me with transferrable skills for this role.
- In creative collaboration with designers, I devised the logo for Cultural Society which was plastered around the school and in school newsletters
- I have extensive experience on Canva and other design applications through making posters for events, work and even for my personal art interests
- I love promoting events and making sure everyone has a chance to get involved (demonstrated by the high attendance at Cultural society every week!)
- My experiences in public speaking and leading is furthered by past assemblies I delivered to my whole school focusing on International Women’s Day and Pride Month
Using these acquired skills, my goal as your publicity officer is to make sure YOU know what BioSoc events are happening, albeit via emails, social media or by spreading the word. I believe that communication is the fundamental aspect of publicity but collaboration with other members of the department is just as important!
