Chemical Engineering: Secretary

Hi! I’m Wei Jen, the current Pipeline Editor, and I’m excited to be running for Secretary.

As a member of Pipeline since my first year, I’ve worked on all aspects of the magazine and gained experience in team and project management. This year, I successfully coordinated a team of 6 to deliver 3 (the fourth one coming soon!) Pipeline issues – check out our work at chemengsoc.com/blog. I’ve also gained insights into the operations of the communication team, which the Secretary manages. Additionally, my experience as Events Officer in another society has familiarised me with union procedures, another important skill for a Secretary.

My main goal as Secretary is to improve the society’s internal and external communication. In addition to managing administrative tasks (calendar, meeting minutes, weekly newsletters), I plan to achieve this by:

Internal communication

  • Working closely with other divisions to foster efficient communication within the team.
  • Implementing tracking systems such as
    • Progress tracker spreadsheet for promotional material, ensuring all events are well-marketed.
    • Duty roster for general committee duties, like ChemEng & Coffee.

External communication

  • Newsletter: Integrating the careers section; Exploring ways to boost engagement – e.g. interactive mini-games.
  • Website: Collaborating to develop the events calendar and career hub sections; Keep all content up-to-date, especially the Pipeline and sponsors sections.
  • Regular ChemEng & Coffees and termly Town Hall Meetings, providing more casual opportunities for committee and member interaction and updates.

Thanks for reading! I hope you’ll support me as your next Secretary :)
